I used Apu Climbs for a 10 day trip to Ecuador in late December 2025. My goal was to attempt two of Ecuador's highest peaks, Cayambe and Chimborazo. Having visited Ecuador almost 20 years earlier, I knew I needed a proper acclimatization program, and I wanted different acclimatization peaks than before for variety. I got in touch with Nico, and my interactions with him were wonderful. He understood what I wanted and was very flexible in catering to my specific requests. We had a couple of great phone conversations, and he always made himself available. He then sent me a very detailed itinerary and arranged a top-notch guide, the great Carla Pérez, plus a very capable mountaineer and driver, Tomás, as her assistant. Nico also arranged an excellent, knowledgeable guide for a day tour of Quito. All the logistics and hotel stays were fantastic, with enough downtime between hard days. Carla, despite all her accomplishments in the Himalaya, Karakoram and South America, is a very humble and kind person and an attentive guide. She watched me climb and offered great suggestions on technique, gear and food. Her presence at the sharp end of the rope gave me a lot of confidence. I cannot say enough about Nico, Carla, Tomás and Apu Climbs. I will travel with them again should the opportunity arise.
